I had a crying 2 year old in my arms so I said, 'Ok, let's figure it out once I get Esther in bed.'
Once she was down Van told me his plan. He wanted to bring special plates and cups for snack time for everyone in his preschool class. He had the list from the fridge with everyone's name, and all of our plates from the kitchen stacked up.
I told him I had another idea.
I got out some dispoable plates and craft supplies and we spent the next hour and a half making everyone a plate.
We had a list of 9 people, but Van knew one had left. Then he insisted there was another girl named 'Gwen'. I had to guess on the spelling, hopefully that was right. He said he really like Gwen.
While decorting the front Van first said, "Mine will have the most" And gave his plate about 28 decorations, while some others had 2 or 3.
Eventually I was able to talk him out of that strategy trying to explain how some people might be upset if they didn't get as much as someone else. And that you can't put the most on your own. And that we don't have an unlimited supply. Ultimately he decided each plate should have 5 decorations on the front and then he was very meticulous about counting the decorations and removing extras if there were more than 5 (even the small sparkles count, he insisted).
The best part when when we finally got to bed, even after we read a couple chapters of James and the Giant Peach, he laid in bed whispering things like, "You don't need to get the napkins out today Miss Nancy, I brought plates."
And "Check your cubbies everyone"
He was really imagining how it was going to go.
I can't wait to hear how it goes, I hope it goes well!
