Alaska Sand and Gravel

Today Alaska Sand and Gravel had this amazing open house. They own 65 acres about a mile from our house and my friends were walking over with their sons and invited me along. I joined them without knowing much about it. But it was so great that I actually have very few pictures because I kept forgetting to take them.

First there were 3 big pieces of heavy machinery lined up and the kids could climb up into them. A loader, a cement mixer and something with a crane. Van, Esther and I sat in the drivers seat of a big loader, it was so cool.

Then there was a gravel box, which I do have pictures of, since I spend a lot of time standing next to it. It was filled with dump trucks, shovels, buckets and wagons.

(I took one from this angle so you could see the trucks they had lined up for the kids to sit in, that first one is a big cement mixer)

Then we went on a tour of the facility and saw how they make all the different products, and saw all the piles of rocks. The laser operated robot that stacks gravel bags was probably the highlight. This picture of Van riding the bus is the only picture I took, I wish I had more.

Anyway what a fun event for a not so nice day. The weather has finally turned after almost a week of sunshine.
